The days are longer, the weather is warmer, and you might even have a little more energy—so why not make some progress on that home to-do list? Ultimately, the top projects on your list will depend on your home’s specific needs and priorities, but it can still be helpful to see what others are doing and to pull some inspiration from there. That's why we're sharing Thumbtack's list of the top trending spring and summer home projects for 2024. To pull together these trends, Thumbtack scoured its database of millions of projects in more than 500 categories. One of the biggest themes from the findings is that many homeowners seem to be ready for an aesthetic refresh. The number one most-booked project ahead of summer is interior painting, which is one of the fastest and most affordable ways to significantly change the look of your space. Similarly, the report also found an uptick in homeowners searching for help with wallpaper removal (up 77% YoY) and carpet removal (up 57% YoY), showing that a lot of homeowners are ready for a change. Less obvious, however, are all the ways in which more and more homeowners are prioritizing sustainability in their home improvement projects. Thumbtack specifically reports an uptick in installations of solar panels, as well as timer-driven automatic sprinkler systems, double-hung windows, and making other insulation updates to improve energy efficiency. One of the most pressing tasks on the minds of many right now, is making sure that their A/C is up and running. Duct and vent repair is up 112% YoY, Thumbtack reports, and A/C repair or maintenance is up a whopping 242% YoY. Similary, window tinting—which is used to keep homes cool while using less energy—is up 48% YoY and smart home installation or repair (to keep thermostats in good shape) is up 61% YoY.
