Shopping Home Products Organizing I Did a Massive Organizational Overhaul of My Home—Here’s Everything I Used to Declutter Each Room From large utility shelves to small cable ties. Real Simple's Editorial Guidelines Published on August 20, 2024 06:00PM EDT Photo: Real Simple / Tyler Roeland I moved into a new apartment four months ago, and it’s been an ever-evolving task to keep it organized. When I first moved, I bought the obvious things like utensil holders, command hooks, shoe racks, and pantry organizers. After a few weeks, I noticed that my closets weren’t being utilized to their fullest extent and got storage bins and hangers galore. But in the last two weeks, the spots “I’d get to later” suddenly became so frustrating that I went straight to my favorite retailers (Amazon and Target, obviously) and curated one of the largest shopping carts I’ve made in months in the hopes to get my home in order. Spoiler: My home and my mental health feel so much better. I finally took care of the laissez-faire way my home gym equipment was stored, the underwear drawer that was in complete disarray, and my pantry and entryway closets that were littered with stacks of boxes. With these storage bins, rolling carts, utility shelves, and garment racks, I finally feel like everything in my home has a designated place. And you can shop them below for as low as $8. In an effort to move my boxes of towels, sheets, off-season clothing, and luggage downstairs, I snagged this shelving unit to hold them all in one place, and get them out of my overcrowded entryway closet. It took less than 10 minutes to assemble and holds up to 200 pounds or the equivalent of eight 27-gallon boxes. Brightroom Large Y-Weave Decorative Storage Basket Target $8 at Target These storage baskets were a lifesaver in organizing paper goods in my pantry, kitchen linens, yoga blocks and resistance bands, cat supplies, and more. I purchased several of the $8 boxes and placed them anywhere a container was lacking in my home. Needless to say, they’re the best catchall organizers I’ve ever purchased. I’m already anticipating getting a few more to stow my winter accessories like hats and mittens. Brightroom Three-Drawer Medium Cart Target Orig. $15 $12 at Target This three-drawer rolling cart took care of a surprising storage problem that was the origin of my organization woes: my cleaning device attachments. The little parts that come with electric spin scrubbers, steam cleaners, and handheld vacuums are easy to lose and difficult to store. I initially kept each attachment in its original box on the floor of my pantry, but with this rolling cart, they get their own easy-to-reach cubby while opening up space in my closet. I also store all of my reusable grocery bags in the cart, too. My home finally got the refresh it needed with these clever and affordable organizers.
