Dyson Just Launched Hair Care Products—and Stylists Are Obsessed

When Dyson entered the beauty space with its revolutionary blow dryer in 2016, the world definitely took notice. And now that its iconic hair tools have become a mainstay in salons and bathrooms across the globe, the brand has made its first foray into hair styling products much to consumer delight. Stylists are raving about the new lineup, too, noting that it seriously simplifies routines, delivers impressively long-lasting results, and accommodates a range of textures. 

Meet the Dynamic Duo 

The brand new Chitosan line consists of two products. The first—and perhaps the one garnering the most hype RN—is the Chitosan Pre-Styling Hair Cream for Flexible Hold.

It’s a revolutionary pre-styling cream applied to wet hair prior to heat-styling that delivers soft, long-lasting hold. What’s especially cool about it is that it’s available in different formulas according to your hair type, including straight to wavy (light conditioning), straight to wavy (rich conditioning), curly to coily (light conditioning) and curly to coily (rich conditioning).

"The results you achieve with one of the pre-stylers would typically take an army of other products,” says stylist Courtney Warda, owner of Haus of Hndsm in Sola Salons. “No frizz, the perfect amount of shine, and a touchable hold that actually lasts? Name one product that can do all of that…I’ll wait.” 

The second product—Chitosan Post-Styling Hair Serum for Hold & Style Extending— is a post-styling serum that defines hair and creates a shiny, silky finish. It's meant to be used on dry hair that's already styled and is suitable for all hair textures and types. 

How the Products Work

The line’s named after the hero ingredient, chitosan, which is derived from the cell walls of oyster mushrooms. Err, what are mushrooms doing in your hair care? Well, it’s not just there for a buzzy moment. The brand explains that the ingredient is responsible for the mushroom’s billowing, cloud-like shape, structure, and strength, and the goal was to provide the same for hair. 

Along with Chitosan, the brand’s also contain complex polymers versus the simple polymers often found in products and triangle-shaped bonds. This allows for maximum flexibility, softness, and longer-lasting hold versus crunchy texture and a hairstyle that falls flat at the mere whisper of humidity.

“Dyson considered all hair types when creating this line—straight, wavy, curly to coily—and each pre-styler was carefully curated for each of us,” Warda says. “Being a curly girly myself, I appreciate what this line does for my hair as well as my clients’ hair.” 

The new hair care products have been in the making for the last five years, the brand tells Real Simple, and are meant to work in tandem with Dyson tools. (You can still use them with other styling tools, though). The line follows suit with its MO, which is to simplify hair care routines, deliver gorgeous results, and minimize damage in the process.
