It's a rich red that's both timeless and modern, and is perfect for small or large spaces or just a little pop of color. Our favorite thing about Rumors? It makes a statement but is also incredibly versatile, thanks to its rich undertones, which are a bit more approachable when compared to its fire engine or apple red cousins. Photo by BEHR Rumors is part of Behr’s 2025 Color Trends Palette, an annual selection of forward-looking colors in a range of warm and cool shades. It's meant to simplify the color selection process for DIYers, designers, and paint professionals. “Our Color of the Year empowers consumers to use color with confidence,” says Andy Lopez, senior vice president, head of marketing at Behr Paint. “Rumors is undoubtedly a color that inspires creativity while being versatile enough to transform a space through large and small projects." Photo by BEHR When deciding on their Color of the Year for 2025, Behr conducted a survey and found that 75% of Americans said that they would consider painting a room or wall a shade of red. “We’re seeing people embrace color like never before,” says Erika Woelfel, vice president of color and creative services at Behr. "Rumors is a modern take on the timeless red that creates an energetic appeal to make a lasting statement in a stunning way.” The survey also found that about three-quarters (73%) of Americans believe that embracing the color red can add depth and character to living spaces, and more than half (61%) agree that bold red walls feel warm and captivating. Photo by BEHR Hot on the heels of the Unexpected Red Theory (aka, the secret design trick to elevate your space), we can definitely imagine using Rumors to refresh a chair, fireplace, or even a picture frame—especially if you're feeling a little shy about painting an entire room.
