The industry secret is out: Even professional interior designers love HomeGoods. We're obsessed with the home decor store, but we were surprised to learn the designers we interviewed for this story were just as enthusiastic when it came to discussing their favorite HomeGoods finds.

And for that, we're so thankful, because as much as we appreciate the store's large, rotating inventory, sometimes it's overwhelming and hard to figure out what you should pick up—and what you should put back down on the shelf. So we asked those interior designers to help us shop through HomeGoods. Here, they share their seven absolute must-haves.

Throw Pillows

Throw pillows are an easy way to nail down the look of any room, but, since you can’t just have one on a sofa, the price can really add up. “I love dashing down the pillow aisle to look for plush designer throw pillows,” says Amber Guyton, the Atlanta-based creator of Blessed Little Bungalow and one of our REAL SIMPLE HOME 2024 designers.

“Those pillows can cost much more elsewhere for the quality, especially after purchasing both the cover and insert from other retailers.” The best thing about the pillows at HomeGoods is their variety, so you can find something for your place no matter what your style is.

Small Decorative Objects

Though little pieces may not break a room, they can certainly make a room, helping it feel more thoughtful and layered. “Small, decorative accessories are always a go-to for me,” says designer Hope Austin, founder of Hope Austin Interiors. In particular, she recommends decorative boxes, bowls, and vases.

Guyton also notes that HomeGoods has a broad selection of brass figurines, which add little sophisticated glimmers throughout the nooks and crannies of a space.

Pet Supplies

This one may surprise you because it's not strictly home decor, but Barry Bordelon and Jordan Slocum of the Brownstone Boys, a Brooklyn-based design duo who are also working on this year's REAL SIMPLE HOME, highly recommend their dog supplies. “They have the cutest toys, leashes, and accessories for pets. We've gotten our pup, Zuko, tons of cute things from HomeGoods.” You probably don't need reminding but basically, next time you’re shopping, don’t forget about your furry friend!

Kitchenware

HomeGoods is also a great place to purchase practical goods for your kitchen. Slocum and Bordelon say, “We won't leave HomeGoods without that one amazing find. You know what we're talking about: the Le Creuset mug set or the Breville milk frother.” Best of all, you can find them at prices lower than any online retailer.

Coffee Table Books

HomeGoods has a bunch of oversized books—a great talking point for any living room. “I’m always on the hunt for coffee table books,” says Austin. “I’ve found some great ones at a fraction of the price you would find at a bookstore or online.” And one of the best things about HomeGoods is its rotating selection of products, so you will always find new books every time you go.

Picture Frames

Buying multiple frames can easily cost hundreds, but at HomeGoods, you can be sure that you’re getting a great deal. According to Amber, “HomeGoods is a great place for quality picture frames. You can save a bundle on large matted gallery wall frames sets and find a variety of picture frames for any surface that have more character than the average frame at other stores.”

Bookends

Amber also recommends bookends, another small feature that doesn't really need to be functional. Cozy, book corners are trending right now in design, so don’t miss the chance to snag a couple of marble or brass bookends to bump up the academia vibes of your nook.
