One of the biggest interior design trends of 2024 is the Nancy Meyers aesthetic. While this look has been getting a lot of love on TikTok recently, it’s anything but new or trendy. “Aesthetically speaking, it’s a blend of modern farmhouse and classic design, which paired together, feels timeless and unfussy," Rebekah Zaveloff, co-founder and creative director of Imparfait Design Studio, says. The renewed appreciation for the Nancy Meyers look also falls in line with the recent grandma-chic trend, "and depending on the location, there is always a classic or coastal twist," Zaveloff says.

This decor style is also consistent with the overall feeling that a Nancy Meyers movie evokes. “[The movies are] casual, welcoming, and comfortable, but also stylistically on point with a hint of aspiration," Zaveloff says. "People want the life or the experience, and that's symbolized in any one of her movies.”

You can think of the Nancy Meyers aesthetic almost as the sequel to the Quiet Luxury craze. Yet, it’s far from a flash in the pan. You can go all in without worrying your furniture and decor will look dated when TikTok finds another viral hashtag. So, go ahead and recreate the look with these seven designer-approved tips.

Add New Touches to Old Things

“More than anything, what makes a Nancy Meyers home a Nancy Meyers home is the feeling it evokes," Zaveloff says. "It’s wrapped up in nostalgia quite a bit. Her spaces always seem to represent the most heartwarming components of a ‘real’—albeit extremely chic—home of a certain decade or location."

So, instead of buying something new that doesn't hold much meaning or history, ask an elder family member for a home item that belonged to a previous generation. This could be vintage plates that you could display on your wall, an antique dish that could serve as a jewelry catch-all, or old photos and artwork that are sure to add more character to your home.

If you don’t have access to family heirlooms, look outside your family. Hit up your local estate sale, antique store, or even just a thrift shop.

Think Coastal Chic

Zaveloff suggests decorating with coastal chic pieces, such as slip-covered sofas, jute or striped sisal rugs, and glass hurricane lamps. Just try not to go over the top with the beachy or kitschy theme. Skip the “Sandy Toes” statement art and opt for a neutral painting or print of the shoreline instead.

Incorporate Rattan Accents

Kenzie Elizabeth, founder of Friend of Mine, who lives in a Nancy Meyers-inspired home in Texas, tells me that adding rattan gives a very Nancy Meyers feel. “She has rattan throughout all of her interiors, and I've incorporated this or similar looks throughout my home, from trays to end tables,” Elizabeth says.

This doesn’t mean every piece of furniture and accessory should be rattan, but even small touches, such as a picture frame or lamp shade, can work.

Keep Comfort in Mind

One of the best things about Nancy Meyers-inspired spaces is that they feel as good as they look. “There’s something about peering into a Nancy Meyers living room through the screen and just knowing that the overstuffed club chair is extremely comfortable in real life,” Zaveloff says.

So, pick out a double-deep sofa, and don’t forget to add a plush ottoman. Recreating the Nancy Meyers style is about evoking a feeling as much as it is an aesthetic.

Throw in Some Pops of Blue

While whites, tans, and other neutrals are at the heart of the Nancy Meyers sets, blue is also a part of this color scheme. “The movies always incorporate blue hues throughout the homes,” Elizabeth says.

Try adding a few different blue accessories such as art, throw blankets, and tablecloths.

Keep Hydrangeas Around

“I have hydrangeas everywhere,” Elizabeth says. But she let us in on a little secret: “I actually use fake hydrangeas because I live in Texas, and it's just not realistic for me to have real ones due to the weather," she says. "It's a really inexpensive way to achieve the Nancy Meyers look.”

Embrace Layering

One great way to get that comfy, lived-in look of a Nancy Meyers home is to layer your home accessories. “Layer textiles and books on top of books," Zaveloff says. "But keep the palette warm, mostly neutral, and consistent throughout your space.”

One way to do this is to stack a few coffee table books on a side table or desk and top them with a mini lamp. “I love the look of a mini lamp with a linen shade," Elizabeth says. You'll see these a ton throughout the movies, and they bring warmth and coziness to the home,” says Elizabeth.
